The Bells
In May 1984, Mr Laith Reynolds (Vice President of the Australian
& New Zealand Association of Bellringers) approached the Christ
Church Parish Council offering the gift of a peal of six bells as
a memorial to his brother Frank William Reynolds who died in 1972
at the age of 37.
The bells, cast by Gillett and Johnson of Croydon, Surrey, England,
came from the church of St Paul's Canonbury, Islington, London.
They had been installed there in 1920 as a memorial to those who
gave their lives in WW1. The church was eventually deconsecrated
and the eight bells were removed by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.
The two lighter bells are now the 3rd and 4th bells of the ring
of eight at Rockingham Town Hall.
The original set of ropes was donated by Christ Church Grammar School
in the school colours of blue and gold.
