Once you have carefully read the information below and would like to explore further the possibility of being married here at Christ Church, please contact the Parish Office and request an appointment to see Fr Greg Davies, the Parish Priest. During this meeting Fr Greg will explain what the church offers in terms of marriage here at Christ Church and the various options that are available for your ceremony. At the time of making this appointment to see Fr Greg, a tentative booking can also be made for your wedding so that you can secure a date and time. We allow one and half hours between wedding ceremonies. If you have any other questions or need further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the Parish Office. Who can be married at Christ Church? All are welcome to explore being married in the Anglican way. It is important that couples seeking marriage here at Christ Church understand that what we offer is not just a beautiful sacred space for their wedding ceremony but also a way to be married. That way is Christian and in the Anglican tradition. In coming to the Christian Church for marriage, it is understood that couples seek to have their commitment to one another made before God and with God's blessing. It is after all, a religious ceremony. More information about this aspect will be given to you at your initial interview with Fr Greg Davies. Who can marry us at Christ Church? An Anglican priest must be the officiant at your wedding. If you know an Anglican priest and would like him/her to be the officiant then this is possible. You can explore this with the priest concerned either prior to, or after the initial interview with Fr Greg What about preparation? The Anglican Church not only seeks to help couples plan and celebrate their wedding but importantly also assist in the preparation for 'marriage'. Therefore all couples married at Christ Church are required to undertake some marriage preparation. We offer a professionally run marriage education workshop which is held over a Friday evening and Saturday morning. These are scheduled at various dates throughout the year. This is a valuable investment for your future together and includes ongoing support from our Parish Marriage Education Co-ordinator / counsellor Mrs Sue Croudace. Wedding Information Evening. You will receive an invitation to a wedding information evening as part of the preparation for your wedding ceremony. These are usually held on a Tuesday evening from 6.00 pm to 7.15 pm. During this gathering you will have an opportunity to meet our Director of Music, Mr Jim Bruce who will be able to advise and assist in planning the music for your wedding. Fr Greg will also go through the order of service and outline all the various options available and answer any other questions. Information about readings and copies of the order of service for the congregation will be given at this time. What will it cost? No fee is charged for the pastoral ministry of the church offered by the priest before or during the marriage ceremony. All the Christian sacraments are free, for God's grace is sheer gift. However there are expenses that need to be reimbursed. Because more weddings are celebrated in Christ Church than most other churches in Western Australia, our administration costs are exceptionally high. If cost is a barrier to being married here at Christ Church, please mention this during your initial interview and we will do our best to assist in any way we can. Currently Parish expenses for the provision of the organist, flowers, marriage education and administration amount to $1100.00 [including a non-refundable booking fee of $200.00 to confirm you arrangements] and will apply to all bookings made from the 1st June 2007. All documents are provided including your marriage certificate which is printed in an attractive style. We also suggest a $200 donation towards the conservation of this historic church which is tax deductible and made through the National Trust. This donation is of course optional and of course any amount is most welcome. The Confirmation of Booking Form will be provided at the initial interview and is then to be returned to the Parish Office with the booking fee within 6 weeks from this appointment. A receipt will then be forwarded to you together with a letter to confirm your date and time of the ceremony. What official documents must we produce? Birth certificates for both of you, together with divorce papers/death certificate where necessary. If you are born overseas a current valid passport is acceptable. Taking photographs in church Photographs in church? We want you to have a good photographic record of your marriage, but we also want everyone to be really present during the ceremony, rather than experience it afterwards as a media event! Photographers (professional and amateur) are very welcome, but must observe parish guidelines which will be provided to you to pass on to your photographer. More info Music All music should be arranged with the Director of Music, Jim Bruce, who normally plays the pipe organ at all weddings. The Christ Church pipe organ is a fine instrument, capable of a considerable range of musical styles. Other musicians and instruments are welcome by arrangement with, and under the supervision of, the Director of Music. All music in the church should be performed live. Recorded music is not generally encouraged and may contravene copyright laws where the risk of prosecution and payment of damages is high. The Director of Music will advise you about this and any other questions you may have regarding music. You can also arrange to meet with Mr Bruce privately at a mutually convenient time in addition to the wedding information evening. More info Flowers Church Flowers are organised by the church office and arranged freshly every week by a professional florist. Flowers are arranged to complement the beauty of the church building, and are guaranteed to be suitable for the occasion. Other Decorations Flowers, ribbons, bows or other decorations on pew ends are permitted. If you decide you want pew decoration, they look best on every other pew end, need to slip on and off easily, and must be placed and removed immediately before and after the wedding. Christ Church Bells This is one of four churches in Western Australia with a peal of bells. Six experienced bellringers give time to ring the bells for you, and the cost is $180. Bells ring both before and after the ceremony. At least one month's notice is needed prior to the ceremony if bells are required. Confetti Confetti in any form - paper, rose petals, rice (boiled or not) - is not permitted under any circumstances in or around the church precincts. Rehearsal A full rehearsal - but not a dress rehearsal - for everyone in your wedding party is usually held in the week prior to your marriage at a time convenient to you and the presiding priest. For all appointments and the ceremony itself, it is very important that you are on time. If you will be more than five minutes late for an appointment, you will need to contact the parish office and reschedule or leave a message. Parish Hall/Rectory Renovations during 2007/2008 During this time the Parish Hall and Rectory will be undergoing extensive renovations. While this will not impact on the church building, there will need to be some security fencing in front of the Hall and Rectory together with temporary toilets. We will endeavour to minimise any impact on the surrounds. If you have any concerns or questions please raise these at your initial interview. Parking With all the construction work being undertaken at present it is recommended that couples include a copy of the parking plan with their invitations indicating location and access. It may also be helpful to indicate that the ceremony will commence on time so that guests allow sufficient time for travel to the church and parking. |
